Service/Installation Engineer


An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Service/Installation Engineer to work for one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of bespoke barrier and gates. Working autonomously driving a company van to customers sites to carry out installations, planned maintenance and ad-hoc servicing and repair work on gates, barriers & turnstiles in Lancashire and surrounding areas.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role and will be able to demonstrate experience in:

  • Installations – working individually or as part of a small team – reading and using technical drawings to understand the required layout, checking components, install equipment (gates/barriers/turnstiles) to a professional standard, carrying out checks to ensure that everything is in good working order prior to signing the project off.
  • Maintenance – carrying out planned preventative maintenance tasks including fitting spare parts and conducting periodic force tests on powered gates. Experience with power and hand tools is essential.
  • Servicing & Repairs – responding to customer reports of issues with faulty or damaged equipment, diagnose faults and carry out remedial work as required. Record-keeping – Inspection reports are completed following site visits using Tomtom devices. Timesheets must be completed and records are also kept of inventory used.
  • Communication – This role will involve liaising with staff at Head Office to understand what work is required and with staff on customer sites to gain access and to answer any queries relating to our equipment.
  • Driving – responsible for ensuring company vehicle is regularly cleaned, serviced and kept in a road legal state. The branded vehicle must be driven in a considerate manner and in line with legal requirements – adhering to speed limits (including any restrictions imposed that are company specific), bus lanes and other aspects of the highway code. A valid driving licence is required.
  • Health & Safety – Ensuring that all requirements are met including: equipment checks; wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment; following safety protocols; proactively reporting any concerns or risks; participating in training and risk assessments as required.
  • Stock Control – To locate/collect required stock for projects, carry out quality checks on components, maintain records of stock used.
  • Team Support – providing help and advice to other Site Engineers to resolve issues and to meet peak demand periods.

 The ideal candidate will have the following personal attributes:

Qualification required:

  • Electrical certification including, but not limited to, 17th/18th Edition.
  • City and Guilds level 3 in electrical installations (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience within the gate and barrier industry.

Preferable requirements:

  • Experience with access controls.

Working Hours

  • You will need to have flexibility to work on shifts as required, with a basic contract of 49 hours per week.
  • Must be able to work at weekends on a rota basis; to carry out contractual work (installations) as and when required.
