Does my School need Security Gates or Barriers?
The simple answer is yes. School security gates are important for multiple reasons. Keeping both children and staff safe during school hours is crucial to a schools success from both a teacher and parent perspective.
Installing security gates around a school premises or as part of a car park will ensure the safety of students and keep unauthorised visitors out of school grounds both during school hours and after.
Even after school hours, knowing your educational premises is secure through the use of gates and or barriers will deter thieves from entering the school and stealing expensive equipment or even personal data.
As one of the main concerns amongst teachers and parents is unauthorised people accessing school grounds, installing security gates or barriers at entrances and car parks will help to stop these types of people getting close to the school.
When are Schools likely to be targeted by thieves & vandalism?
Unsurprisingly, schools experience more thefts during the summer holidays and it’s easy to see why, as schools out, leaving an empty, vulnerable school. This doesn’t however mean the security of your school has to stop with it.
Can our School Gates be customised?
Absolutely. Most educational buildings like to show off their school colours and your security gates and barriers can do that too. As part of our many services, we can create custom barriers and gates to match your requirements.
Feel free to check out our case studies, which includes custom blue barriers for Chelsea FC.
Which security gate do I need for my school?
As we have a choice of security gates suitable for schools to choose from, you may be wondering which one is the most suitable. This all depends on where you plan on installing a security gate or turnstile.
The usual place to install gates is at the entrance of schools; however you might have multiple entrances at the front and back of the building, making one entrance easier to access than another. Of course we would advise securing the entirety of the perimeter to ensure maximum safety to everyone who has authorised access.
Turnstiles can be a great option to control the flow of traffic into your school premises and larger manual and automatic barriers can be incorporated into a school car park to stop the general public from parking in private areas.

School Security Case Study – Getting Children Involved
Newgate encourage schools and their pupils to take an active role with their school security. The staff and pupils from Dale Community Primary School in Derby had a field trip to the factory to inspect their new gate.
When the gate was installed, the children then continued with the project by customising the gate.
Newgate have been designing and installing barrier and school gates systems for many years. We love kids, they are our next generation of apprentices and managers and we encourage children to get involved with the proposed school barrier or gate system from the start.
How can children get involved with your new school barrier or gate system?
- They can measure your entrance with our sales team.
- They can check our working drawings
- They can come to our factory to the see the equipment being built, painted and assembled.
- They can observe the equipment being delivered and offloaded, using our crane lorry.
- They can see the equipment being installed.
- They can get involved with the system check on the new equipment.
This is just what one school did – The Dale Community School in Derbyshire wanted a manual sliding gate for their school. Not just any gate, but one purposely designed and built for them.
The children came to the factory to supervise the gate build.
The children watched the gate being installed at the school.
The end result – they got exactly what they wanted.

Newgate fitted our raised barrier over six years ago now. We had a first class team working for us during the installation and an excellent maintenance and backup service ever since. I can confidently recommend Newgate to any of my colleagues in the knowledge that they will receive the same positive experience that I had.
We are delighted with our traffic barriers at our new school. We have found the staff at Newgate to be exceptionally helpful, highly efficient and to date we have not had a single problem or concern with our barriers. I highly recommend them.
Newgate recently installed a set of electronic vehicle and pedestrian gates at our school. The gates are well designed, robust and of quality build. Very impressive.
We found Newgate very efficient. They provided us with excellent products and services. The engineers that attended our site were a credit to your company. They were polite, professional and nothing was too much trouble. They made sure I was happy with everything before signing the job off. As a school we have very specific security requirements. We had a request for a specific colour and width of gaps on security fencing and gate and this special request was carried out without any delay or issues… Excellent.
