Height Restriction Barriers: Keeping Shoppers Happy This Christmas

Published: 16th December 2019

Height Restriction Barrier

The festive period is a stressful and busy time for the majority of shoppers as people are rushing to buy the last few things they need in time for Christmas. As a result, retail car parks are often already busy and shoppers do not need the added stress of having to deal with large vehicles that shouldn’t be in the car park at all.

Sadly, this is becoming an increasingly common problem in the retail industry as more and more unauthorised large vehicles – such as HGVs and caravans – are causing disruptions in retail car parks which are having negative impacts on genuine shoppers.

What are the problems?

In retail car parks, spaces are provided to make it easy and stress free for customers to do their shopping as it allows people to visit shops and avoid having to park in a private car park or somewhere that is located away from the shop itself.

However these car parks can often be abused by larger vehicles that are making it harder for shoppers to use the car park as intended. Un-authorised vehicles not only take up vacant parking spaces for actual customers (who may now be thinking of going elsewhere to shop as they are unable to park) but they have also been known to leave behind large amounts of litter, which then has to be cleared, furthering the disruptions in the car park and adding an unnecessary cost for car park owners.

Why use height restriction barriers?

Height restriction barriers are an ideal method of preventing larger vehicles from entering a premises as they serve as a warning to drivers that an area is for smaller vehicles only. Installing a height restriction barrier can help resolve the issues that large vehicles can cause as they will be unable to enter your premises without damaging their vehicle.

This is the first step in ensuring that large vehicles don’t affect the experience that shoppers have at supermarkets, retail parks and shopping centres.

Furthermore, the presence of a height restriction barrier can often be enough to deter large vehicles from even attempting to enter the premises as they can immediately recognise that they are not supposed to be there.

As well as preventing large vehicles from entering a premises, height restriction barriers are quick and easy to install and will provide an invaluable security solution for many years.
